Generations Secondary was launched this academic year of 2024/25, with S1 and S2 levels, with the remaining Secondary levels scheduled to open in the following years, namely S3 in 2025/26, S4 in 2026/27, S5 in 2027/28 and S6 in 2028/29.
GENERATIONS Secondary follows the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). MYP is the leading and challenging secondary framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. MYP helps students develop both subject-specific and interdisciplinary understanding.
The MYP framework includes:
- Approaches to learning (ATL), helping students learn how to learn by developing skills for research, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and self-management.
- Key and related concepts, helping students explore big ideas that matter.
- Global contexts, helping students understand the relevance and importance of their study for understanding their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet.
The MYP starts from S1 up to S4. In S5 and S6 students will experience the IB Diploma Programme (DP). As the IB approach and values very much match the Finnish philosophy in Primary, this combination allows for a seamless transition from our Primary Program into Secondary School, with the same simultaneous focus on the academic content and skills needed in the 21st Century.
Research shows that, we compared to other education Programme, the Secondary IB Programme (MYP and DP) can better prepare students for their Higher Education studies, providing, for example, a greater likelihood of attending one of the 20 UK universities (Survey of College and University Admissions Officers 2022, Higher Education Statistics Agency HESA, 2016).
Part of the success and satisfaction of our students relies heavily on the quality of their teachers and also the experiences they may have at GENERATIONS. All our teachers are specialists in their fields and have practical experience and an impressive track record, be in the music, arts, or any other subject. This is fundamental not only to ensure our students always aim high academically, with inspiring role models, but also to ensure the permanent connection with the practical world.
